Changes to Swardale Green and Eastwood Lane junction

This page shows three possible options for Swardale Green at its junction with Eastwood Lane and Barwick Road.If using the navigation app &#39;What 3 Words&#39; this is <a href="https://what3words.com/sharp.create.stared" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">///sharp.create.stared</a>.<h3>Swardale Green options</h3>In order to provide safer pedestrian crossings and a segregated cycle track along Barwick Road, we will need to push the traffic signals and the vehicle stop line further back along Eastwood Lane junction. This means there isn&#39;t enough space for vehicles to safely turn right out of Swardale Green onto Eastwood Lane.&nbsp;We are proposing three options, which are subject to further investigation whether they are feasible. About the project

We want to improve everyday life across the city, tackle climate change, and improve health and wellbeing. To help achieve this ambition, we&rsquo;re investing in transport infrastructure to make Leeds safer for people walking, wheeling* and cycling.&nbsp;This supports our <a href="https://democracy.leeds.gov.uk/documents/s226223/Connecting%20Leeds%20Report%20Appendix%201A%20111021.pdf" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">transport strategy</a> for Leeds to be &ldquo;a city where you don&rsquo;t need to own a car&rdquo;, aiming to increase walking by 33% and cycling by 400% by 2030.We&rsquo;ve received &pound;1.9million of government funding to better connect walking and cycling routes and&nbsp;make it safer and easier to walk, wheel and cycle shorter journeys to school, local shops and the centre of Crossgates.The proposed scheme covers Barwick Road, areas of Manston, and the Poole Estate.*Wheeling incorporates many methods for getting around, including using wheelchairs, mobility scooters, walking aids and travelling with a pram or pushchair.&nbsp;<img src="https://res.cloudinary.com/commonplace-digital-limited/image/upload/v1722346233/projects/668ead6ae8ed41e07dee9a44/i2yxwvvo8qtz2wk7pd6e.jpg" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt="Map showing the boundary of the scheme"><h4>Collisions in the area:</h4>Since 2019, there have been 22 casualties along the route, involving 5 serious collisions*.&nbsp;Our road safety investment aims to improve safety for all road users and support Vision Zero &ndash; aiming to have zero deaths and serious injuries on Leeds roads by 2040.&nbsp;*Casualties refer to the number of people hurt or killed in a collision.
